About Omran Abuazza
Omran Abuazza completed a BSc in Materials Science and Engineering in 1987 from the Faculty of Nuclear and Electronic Engineering, followed by an MSc in Strategic Quality Management in 2006 from the University of Portsmouth, UK. After this, he was granted a professional doctorate in 2019 in Quality Auditing from the same university (Portsmouth, UK).
Omran has developed 13 research papers, published them in peer-reviewed, well-known international journals, such as the IJQRM, and presented many of them at international scientific conferences in several countries, including the USA, Australia, Japan, Canada, and South Africa.
Additionally, he has written, developed, and published two books, in English and Arabic, containing an innovative model for the Quality and Organizational Excellence Award. The titles of these two books are: “Development of a Business Excellence and Quality-Auditing Framework”, and “An Awarding Program for Quality and Organizational Excellence”.
Furthermore, Omran is a continuous participant as a speaker at many virtual international conferences, such as the workshop of doctorate students at the Faculty of Business of the University of Portsmouth, UK, in 2020.
Omran is an associate member (AIQA) of the Chartered Quality Institute UK (CQI); a professional member (MIM) of the Institute of Materials, UK; a NACE member of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers, USA; as well as a PECB and LRCA Lead Auditor and Tutor for ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, and ISO 222000:2018 standards.
About the experience in auditing
During the period 2000–2011, Omran managed and ran a company that offered ISO certifications for organizations. He has audited different ISO management system standards for more than 35 organizations.
Over the period of 1988 to 2011, Omran has worked with one of the biggest civil engineering projects in the world (The Great Man-Made River Authority in Libya) in the fields of project management and TQM. At the same time, he also worked as a quality auditor, conducting many compliance audits on various suppliers from various countries of the world, including Korea, China, Japan, Australia, UK, Germany, Italy, France, Greece, Turkey, Bosnia, Canada, Brazil, and the USA. In addition to this, he also worked as a QA specialist with the consultant company at the Man-Made River Project, which is the Brown & Root Company (British National) at its offices in Benghazi, Tripoli, and London.
He also worked between 2008 and 2013, as the head of the ISO Committee, which has qualified The Great Man-Made River Project Authority for ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007 certification.
From 2011 to 2015, Omran has performed more than 29 assessment audits for ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 (ISO 18001), and ISO 22000 and has trained more than 60 trainees for several internationally recognized accredited certification bodies.
Moreover, for the past 11 years, he has worked part-time as the executive director of the Libyan Audit Society, which specializes in conducting impartial quality assessments and audits.
Omran’s experience with MSECB
Omran performed a great number of certification and surveillance audits on behalf of MSECB for ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 22000, at companies of different fields, which included construction, engineering, project management, oilfield services, inspection, petrochemical production, maritime transport, medical services, research centers, food industry, telecommunication, holding companies, medical waste treatment, catering services, water technology, air transportation, amongst others.
Because of working with MSECB, Omran was able to develop an audit method to audit not only conformance but also audit performance, risk management, and improvement in combination.
Furthermore, the role of the auditor was enhanced by Omran to include problem-solving, risk identification, and data analysis. The MSECB clients that have been audited by Omran have appreciated the audits because they encourage their internal auditors to use management tools, attain the skills needed for assertion and sampling, and develop qualitative metrics to measure the performance of their internal audits and analyze their results.
