About Brian Henry
I have been involved in business and information technology since 1970 and have consulted on business continuity since 1986. I then founded the Caridon Group, which is based in Australia and South Africa and provides business and systems consulting with specialist skills in governance, compliance, and risk. I served for 17 years in total as a management consultant with three of the Big Four consulting houses, providing support to client management on business systems issues including security, business continuity, risk and impact assessments, organizational restructuring, and strategic planning.
I am a PECB Certified Trainer and since 2013, have delivered their Lead Auditor and Lead Implementer Training Courses for ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 22301 (Business Continuity), ISO/IEC 27001 (Information Security), and ISO 37001 (Anti-Bribery).
Recently, I have been engaged in the implementation of an integrated management system comprising six ISO standards for a major telecommunications organization. These include quality, environmental management, health and safety, service management, information security, and business continuity.
I have been a founding member and fellow of the Business Continuity Institute (BCI), as well as a registered BCI Mentor, since the institute’s inception in 1994.
I served as Chairman of the SADC Chapter of the BCI from 2013–2019 and as a member of the ISO/TC 292 Working Group.
About the experience in auditing
In 2018, I joined the MSECB Auditors Network, and since then, I have conducted several audits for many customers in various industry sectors. Of all the standards, the one with the most demand in the market is information security, mainly ISO/IEC 27001 and associated guidelines for cloud, privacy, and cyber security.
On the other hand, my experience in business continuity has allowed me to assist customers in their transition to 2019 version of ISO 22301 and provide reviews and gap analyses in preparation for certification.
The pandemic forced the audit disciplines to develop techniques for online assessments, and these developments have fortunately been very successful. They have enabled all my auditees to retain their certification through online surveillance audits. Initial (stages 1 and 2) audits have also been conducted successfully, but onsite visits continue to be a challenge.
Brian’s experience with MSECB
Auditing for MSECB has been a great experience. The support received from the MSECB team is excellent. Moreover, the audit report templates and procedures that are provided are detailed and very thorough. Furthermore, the audit report review process is very effective, and I always develop an improved understanding of the requirements, which is a great example of continual improvement in action.
