About Chioma Obasi
I am a technology, security, risk management, governance, and compliance professional with valuable skills obtained in various industry sectors. I am a Certified Management System Auditor.
I hold a bachelor’s in food science technology from Imo State University, Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria. I began my career as a Technical Product Support team member, providing technical support for OEMs to customers in Nigeria. These supports cut across installation, product updates, product demos, issue resolution, and product testing, among others.
After that, I joined the Training and Certification department. I lead my team in sourcing for training needs by providing training consultation services to organizations on courses to address the training and building training capacity.
Later, I joined the information security consulting department, where I implemented an information security management system, a business continuity management system, a quality management system, and the PCI DSS standard for organizations across Africa. I have also conducted several audits of information security and business continuity management systems for organizations in Africa.
I have led several projects by successfully auditing several standards in various organizations. I have conducted third-party assessments for suppliers, developed security policies, implemented business continuity plans, conducted business impact assessment and risk assessment, workshops, and training based on skill analysis.
My several professional qualifications include MSECB Certified Management Systems Auditor for ISO/IEC 27001:2013 and ISO 22301:2019; ISO/IEC 27001:2013 Lead Auditor; ISO/IEC 27001:2013 Lead Implementer; ISO/IEC 27001:2022 Transition; ISO/IEC 27701:2019; ISO 22301 Lead Auditor; and ISO 37301:2021.
Additionally, I have attended several webinars and conferences organized by several security forums, such as ISACA, EC-Council, and ISC, among others.
About the experience in auditing
I have successfully led and conducted over thirty (30) internal audits, gap assessments, external audits, and third-party assessments over the years in ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO 22301 standards for several organizations, including government sectors, financial (banking, insurance, etc.), and non-financial institutions (fintech, switching companies) across Africa. These include Kenya, Zambia, Gambia, Rwanda, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, the DRC Congo, and still counting.
My career in auditing has provided me with opportunities to support clients in maximizing the value of the standards and enhancing their operations, security, and sustainability.
The challenges faced during the audit experience vary for different organizations. They can include human, technical, documentation, and infrastructure challenges. With the application of professionalism, all challenges will be overcome.
My favorite part of the audit is knowing I have delivered value that satisfies both parties.
I aim to acquire more expertise and audit experience that continually add value and impact to clients.
