Nazma Ahmed has her basic education from London, UK. In the USA she took many certification courses, and a programming Diploma from Chubb. She continues to maintain multiple management systems certifications, which allows her to perform certification audits on behalf of MSECB.

Professional Experience

With more than 40 years of work experience in various fields, Banking, Insurance, Software development, and legal, and Government contracting companies, she leverages this knowledge and experience when performing the certification audits. As the ISO standards are designed to focus on process improvement, she looks at findings as a great opportunity for the Firm to improve the structure and/or process from an ISO perspective. Clients appreciate positive feedback during audits, which results in improved rapport between the auditor and the client.

My exposure to ISO started in 2008, via free training hosted by a small compliance firm based in Virginia.  During the first few years I implemented various ISO management systems for small- medium companies who provided services to the US government, meeting many wonderful people along the way. During the last five years I have completed over 150 Audits across five management systems i.e. ISO 9001, ISO/IEC 20000-1, ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 27701, and 22301.

I was recognized as auditor of the year prior to 2020, which gave a sense of achievement, and recognition. I have many companies who believe in the value of services I provide to them, the greatest success is when I see the continual improvements over time, for those companies who monitor and maintain a list of their continual improvements and reflect on the changes these have made for the firms.  With a focus on cyber security and privacy, companies are choosing to certify against ISO/IEC 27701, as well as ISO/IEC 27017 and ISO/IEC 27018, which I also audit.

Nazma Ahmed's experience in auditing

The first time I sat in the auditee chair, I was extremely nervous wondering if the auditor found the evidence to be sufficient and the management system effective.  It is good experience to experience being an auditee.  A positive outcome is the perfect result for both the auditee and the auditor, however, two specifics experiences come to mind from my auditing years, which were very concerning for both the client and me.

The first occurrence was when a company who had been adhering to all core processes for many years failed to meet a key requirement, due to change of resources, resulting in a major nonconformity, it was a challenge explaining this to the client, so to be sure I ran it by some colleagues, who indicated my judgement was correct.  Additional leadership team members were brought in to review the findings (nonconformity explained), along with steps, and timeline to address the nonconformity. Management accepted; and the ISMS team remediated the finding timely, to prevent a lapse in the continued certification.

The second event to stand out was when an audit request was made from another MSECB partner, Meeting was scheduled, and during the two hours of the audit, there were major differences between the documentation, and the interviews and interpretations of the team members present.

This was a major challenge; The most surprising thing was there were several OFI’s previously written, none of these were addressed, these did not focus on key differences between, opinion, evidence, documentation, or align to the scope.  My attempt to move forward for another two hours was an obvious sign that the company could not move ahead.  We agreed to a follow-up meeting with the MSECB partner, At the follow-up meeting, I presented the findings, (Major non-conformities), observations and OFIs based on the covered materials. At the end of the meeting, the client and MSECB partner accepted the major flaws in the ISMS.  Clients’ certification was put on hold.

Nazma Ahmed's experience with MSECB

I have been working both directly and indirectly with MSECB. I have found all staff to be extremely helpful, responsive, and supportive when a question is raised. Working with MSECB was not a conscious decision, just a natural journey with positive results.

My experience with other certification bodies has been more with the auditors, rather than the actual certification body. What has amazed me is the quality of the audit reports and the lack of details included in the report from other registrars. The new online MSECB system is a significant improvement over the paper reports, resulting in quick turnaround and communications with MSECB staff.

I would most definitely recommend MSECB to both companies and auditors who are looking for both certifications and a career in auditing.
