Ethical AI: Addressing Bias and Transparency with ISO/IEC 42001

Varun Prasad is a Managing Director with BDO’s Third Party Attestation practice. In his current role, he works with tech companies to evaluate their cybersecurity posture and assess compliance with SOC 2 and various ISO standards to help them meet customer requirements and build trust with stakeholders.  He focuses on complex and emerging requirements for security, privacy, cloud and AI assurance.

Varun is an experienced IT audit and risk management professional with over 15 years in the field. Specializing in cloud security and privacy audits, he is an MSECB-approved auditor for ISO/IEC 27001, ISO 22301, ISO 42001 and CSA STAR. With a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from West Virginia University, Varun holds several certifications, including CISA, CISM, CCSK, CIPM, and PMP.

Throughout his career, he has worked with top consulting firms and multinational corporations across various industries, including technology, aerospace, and financial services. Varun is passionate about staying at the forefront of evolving technologies and is particularly interested in understanding their risks and helping build trust with discovering controls for cloud security and AI to continually improve our cybersecurity posture.

He has led numerous audits, assessments, and internal-external engagements, focusing on improving clients’ security posture and ensuring compliance with industry standards. As an active member of ISACA and a board member of the ISACA San Francisco chapter, Varun is committed to the continued development of IT audit practices.
